In this Oxygen Builder video tutorial, we're going to design a beautiful custom 404 error page template that you can use on your WordPress blog or website.
Oxygen Builder is an extremely powerful and flexible WordPress website development tool. There really are no limitations as to what you can do with this plugin.
I've been using it for well over a year for both my own website projects as well as my clients, and I'm so happy that I found this tool, really, I am.
What is a 404 Error Page?
The 404 Error Page is a generated page that is shown to web users who are trying to access a page on a website that no longer exists.
The 404 Error page is an underutilized page on any website, in my opinion. Some people might argue that if a visitor lands on a 404 Error page then that's a bad experience for that user.
Yes, I agree that no one likes to see a big fat 404 error message. It's not great if someone can't find the page they're looking for on your website.
However, the 404 Error page is also an opportunity for you to provide alternative solutions for your visitors.
Simply displaying a 404 error message is not good enough. What is the user supposed to do afterward? That's what matters the most. What alternative solutions can you provide?
Let's take a look -
- Create a redirect to a similar page or post on your site. Not always the best solution. If you're interested in creating redirects for your 404 pages, check out this tutorial.
- Create a custom 404-page template with alternative options such as adding a list of your latest posts, or a list of your most popular posts. Or add a custom search box. You could even add a 'Report Broken Link' feature as I have over on my blog at Magnet4Blogging.
